    Christopher,
Thanks for asking. While I design most of my houses for clients, I still frequently get clients who have their own plans. I still model everyone of them. I find we all understand the entire project better and it honestly blows the client away- builds huge amount of confidence and excitement before we even break ground. Plus, I get a detailed estimate, find and fix issues “before” they present themselves in the field, and convey it all visually to my trades.

    Hi Christopher-

    1) I use a different layer for each profile so that I can use Estimator’s Layers tab to assign costs based on attributes (like lineal footage) of that layer. For example, if I model a footing on a layer called FOOTING – I can then select the item, choose the attribute of FEET and add a cost per foot for labor. I may then ADD ASSOCIATED COST (+) and choose attribute of (YARD3 = CY) for the quantity of concrete. You can add as many additional costs as you like – you might use the FEET to calculate amount of rebar for the footing, etc.

    2) The most important reason for it to be on Layers, is that once you have added these “typical” costs to a Layer and save it in your TEMPLATE file, then the next time you model a footing in a new job, your price is instantly provided in Estimator! You can edit the unit rates if need be, but it will save a lot of time for future models.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Milos-

Thank you for your inquiry – this is definitely on our to-do list. Currently the plugin is set for US dollars, BUT we are working on supporting other currencies. This will be in the next version, but no date set yet for that.

Also, thanks for the concern about higher res tutorials – I have had the same concern in generating them (YouTube compression does blur them a bit). I will endeavor to improve the quality. Is there a particular video you wish to see improved/expanded upon, etc. and I will start with that – for that matter, do you have any suggested/desired topics to cover? This is a brand new plugin/endeavor and I am efforting to generate content on a daily basis.

You should be able to edit the three CSV files in User Settings – Check out this YouTube video for more details https://youtu.be/ml5DBvXvrEg

We did have an issue initially but it should be corrected, depending upon the time you downloaded the trial. Do you see icons to the right of each CSV file? The “Choose File” icons to the left allow you to import your own CSV file (or view the one currently there) and the icon to the right allows you to open the folder where it is located and edit the file directly, save it and it should be good to go from there.

Again, you may need to update to latest version, and please excuse the hurdles on first launch, we just went live a week ago.

Please feel free to email me directly to continue this discussion and/or for any other questions. My address is john@estimatorforsketchup.com
