This video is a brief introduction to the use of SketchUp Template Files. By saving common cost data (like cost per unit of a product on a certain layer, or cost per square foot of a certain material) in a SketchUp template file, the next time you model something on that Layer or with that Material, Estimator will instantly display the costs associated with that selection. Common Components may be stored in this template file as well, but Components cost data may be saved with that component (as an individual .skp file) for importing into future models. Layers and Materials need to be in the file already (Template).
Hi John:
Having a few issues with the templating. I have a file saved that I am using as my estimating template. My plan is to import a building into this file and do all my costing there. I have the costing assigned to a specific layer but when I import a new building and try to assign the groups and components to the layers the saved data doesn’t work. Also when I assign let say a 2×10 rim joist to a layer SPF_2x10_Lin ft the length calculated isn’t even close to what it should be. Any pointers???
Hi Bill-
Could you please email me directly at john@estimatorforsketchup.com and I will help you out. Perhaps send me the file in question. We will get you going!
Hi, can I use your plugin for kitchen cabinetry. Like i mean estimating the cost of whole project of interior design furniture?
Certainly. There are a number of ways to generate estimates for cabinetry, etc. The most basic way is assigning costs to components (individual cabinets, furniture, etc.), or you may choose to use the item’s attribute of area or volume (for example, countertops -you may use the surface area to generate takeoff for countertop quantity), you may use Materials to generate takeoff of wall coverings (paint, drywall, etc.). If you pay a vendor for cabinets and want them totaled for your estimate, you many group them all into one Component and assign total price to that component, or simply enter a QUOTE for it under Quotes. Many different uses. Feel free to email me directly to john@estimatorforsketchup with any questions or feedback.
Dear Team,
I have purchased your plugin and like what I have seen so far, but I need to adapt your CSV files in the plug in and your estimator overview PDF shows 3 CSV file tabs but my plug in doesn’t??
How do I add menus for Wall Tiling, Flooring, Civil Works etc??
